Over Quality assurance in the recycle chain

Quality assurance in the recycle chain

During this symposium we will focus on creating awareness, generating further ideas and networking on the role of quality assurance, based on analytical sciences and/ or audit trails.

Various experts from the plastic recycling world, quality assurance organizations and polymer producing industry will shine their light on the current status here, the developments needed and the impact it will have on the entire plastic industry.
Breakout sessions will allow all participants to share their ideas, ask questions and to scout for collaborations.

Preliminary Programme

  • Welcome.
  • Vision: from passive to active recycling (Frans Beckers, FBBasic/Cirmar).
  • Vision on standardization and quality in the chain according to ISO (Huub Omloo, ISO).
  • Break and networking opportunity.
CircularAssure. Meeting quality assurance challenges in a sustainable supply chain (Job Ridderbecks, Intertek).
  • Recycling in industry (focus on quality assurance and recycling);
    • Quality improvement of used polymers by chemical steps (dr. Gerard Kwant, DSM Engineering Materials).
    • Teijin Aramid (Dr. Bert Gebben).
  • Round Table, Wrap up and joint actions.
  • Networking and drinks & bites.

Please note we will inform you further about this symposium (final programme and the possibility to register in August). Make sure you mark your agenda for this interesting symposium.

Organizers of this symposium

COAST, Community of Analytical Science and Technology, is an independent foundation setting out to innovate analytical science and technology and its education.
One of the relatively new application domains within COAST is the "Circular Economy" with a current strong focus on plastic recycling. Here we collect and develop knowledge and skills in analytical, scientific technology and make it accessible in order to facilitate the transition to a circular economy.

FBBasic/ Cirmar, specialized in circular product and business development, supported by dedicated tech applications. Focus is at circular design, safeguarding end-of-use and next-use quality and value.

Both acknowledged that an increasingly urgent topic which is of relevance for all actors in the polymer value chain (collectors, washers, sorters, polymer producers, compounders and shapers) in plastic recycling is how to assure sufficient quality of recycle, as well as a uniform nomenclature, in order to ensure successful application in existing and new polymer products. Increasingly is it found that classical specifications of plastic grades based on bulk properties (MFI, Tg) are very much insufficient. Additional specs on e.g. the degree of degradation or the presence of substances of very high concern (SVHC) are required.

We are looking forward to meeting many of you in Amersfoort.

Kind regards,
Circular Economy sub-community COAST

Anton Schotman (COAST) – Eric van Sprang (COAST) – Harry Philipsen (DSM) and Frans Beckers (FBB/Cirmar)
